Ich erinnere mich, dass ich als Anatomielehrer in den 1980er Jahren entsetzt war \u00fcber einen Artikel, in dem er behauptete, dass der suprachiasmatische Nucleus (SCN) im Gehirn von Homosexuellen doppelt so gro\u00df sei wie bei Heterosexuellen. Obwohl sich diese Erkenntnis Jahre sp\u00e4ter als falsch herausstellte und von anderen relativiert wurde, war der Artikel einer der ersten Ausdrucksformen des neurogenetischen deterministischen Denkens, das sich in jenen Jahren zu entwickeln begann. Darauf folgte 2010 das Buch Wij Zijn ons Brein (Wir sind unser Gehirn) (500.000 Exemplare des Buches wurden weltweit verkauft!). Seitdem ist es ein weithin akzeptiertes Konzept, dass unser Verhalten vom Gehirn \u201eproduziert\u201d wird und dass Ihr Charakter weitgehend bei der Geburt festgelegt wird \u2013 durch Ihren genetischen Hintergrund und die neun pr\u00e4genden Monate im Mutterleib.<\/p>\n
Es war die Zeit der gro\u00dfen AIDS-Epidemie. Die Reaktionen auf den Artikel (1989) waren in den Niederlanden zun\u00e4chst \u00fcberwiegend negativ. Viele waren der Meinung, dass damit Homosexualit\u00e4t auf eine Hirnanomalie reduziert wurde, und Swaab wurde vorgeworfen, behaupten zu wollen, dass Homosexualit\u00e4t nichts mit Verhalten oder Psyche zu tun habe, sondern eine k\u00f6rperliche Anomalie sei: \u201eIch will nicht akzeptieren, dass meine homosexuelle Neigung durch mein Gehirn verursacht wird\u201d. In der amerikanischen Homosexuellen-Community war die Reaktion ganz anders. Sie f\u00fchlten sich durch diese Forschung in ihrer Neigung eher best\u00e4tigt: \u201eEndlich haben wir den K\u00f6rper, der zu uns passt. Man kann Homosexualit\u00e4t nicht l\u00e4nger als Laune oder Entscheidung oder, schlimmer noch, als pathologisches Verhalten abtun, von dem man geheilt werden kann.\u201d Wer hat Recht?<\/p>\n
Seit mehr als 40 Jahren versuche ich in meinen Kursen zur ph\u00e4nomenologischen Embryologie zu erkl\u00e4ren, dass wir Wesen aus Seele und K\u00f6rper sind und dass wir nicht AUS unserem K\u00f6rper kommen, sondern DURCH diesen K\u00f6rper. Nicht aus dem Gehirn oder als Produkt des Gehirns, sondern durch das Gehirn. Das Gehirn als Ursache und Erkl\u00e4rung? Oder das Gehirn als Bedingung, eine notwendige, aber nicht ausreichende Voraussetzung. Sind wir unser Gehirn oder haben wir ein Gehirn? \u00dcberraschenderweise spielt diese Frage bereits bei der Empf\u00e4ngnis eine Rolle. Beginnen wir als Zelle oder beginnen wir als einzelliger menschlicher K\u00f6rper? Sind wir das Produkt des K\u00f6rpers und des Gehirns oder haben wir den K\u00f6rper geschaffen, Zelle f\u00fcr Zelle (Rumi)? Oder ist es beides? Und m\u00fcssen wir uns nicht entscheiden, sondern gibt es die Hierarchie, dass das Gehirn, das wir haben, eine notwendige, aber nicht ausreichende Bedingung f\u00fcr das Gehirn ist, das wir sind?
